John Charles Fremont
(1813-1890) John C. Fremont was one the great trailblazers of the American West and his name is ever-present in species lists of the desert and elsewhere. He conducted five major survey expeditions and his botanical collections amounted to over 1,400 specimens, many undiscovered, including 163 new species and 19 new genera including the genus Fremontodendron.
