Castle Mountains National Monument

Castle Mountains National Monument, administered by the National Park Service is a 21,000 acre preserve is a brand-new preserve designated by President Obama in 2016. Given the many choices for potential Monument status across the country, Castle Mountains cleary has something to offer. Castle Mountains have some very rare native California desert grasslands - a feature more common thousands of years ago but now reserved to but a few tiny places. It is almost completely surrounded by the Mojave National Preserve and boasts some of the best stands of Joshua Trees in the Mojave.
